Papers of the Doughty family of Flushing, Queens County, N.Y., include accounts, bonds, surveys, marriage certificates, wills, receipts, letters, slave documents and genealogical material. Items of note include wedding documents of Zebulon Dickinson and Mary Doughty, 1747, and of George Doughty and Harriet Williams, 1832; will of Zebulon Dickinson, 1748; receipts for pasturage, 1778-1780; letters to William or Benjamin Doughty from John Hinchman, a loyalist who removed to England, 1782-1786; a biography of Mary Doughty (1757-1824) by her son; and a list of graves in the Doughty family plot in Westbury Friends Cemetery. Elias Hicks was an eminent Quaker minister from Jericho, Long Island, N.Y. He was a farmer, partner in a tannery, and had a knowledge of surveying. Elias Hicks was born on March 19, 1748, a birthright member of Westbury Monthly Meeting, New York, and the son of John and Martha (Smith) Hicks.
